Dr. Philippa Malmgren is the President of the Canonbury Group (www.canonburygroup.com), a financial services firm based in London, which provides strategic market advisory services. Dr. Malmgren regularly visits with leading policy-makers in the US, Europe and Asia in order to discern how the global political and policy environment may influence prices in financial markets and the global economy. Her clients include the investment committees of many of the world’s largest investment banks, traditional and hedge fund managers, pension funds and corporations. She is the Founder and Publisher of the quarterly Policy & Markets (www.policyandmarkets.com), which is syndicated with Reuters, and the monthly Policy & Markets Reports. She also writes a column for Incisive Media’s Hedge Fund publications.
Dr. Malmgren has worked both in markets and in public policy roles. She served as the financial market advisor in the White House during the dot.com bubble burst and the Enron period. She had served as the Deputy Head of Global Investment Strategy at UBS and as the Chief Currency Strategist for Bankers Trust Company. She is now on the International Advisory Board of The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, and the International Advisory Board for EFG Bank, Bourne Park Capital and Old Square Capital. She a Governor of the Ditchley Foundation in the UK.
She has a B.A. from Mount Vernon College and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics. She has also completed the Harvard Program on National Security. The World Economic Forum in Davos named Dr. Malmgren a Global Leader for Tomorrow in 2000. She is a member of the Economic Club of New York, the Council on Foreign Relations, Chatham House and the Institute for International Strategic Security. She has lectured at Tsinghua University in Beijing and at various universities including Duke Fuqua Global Executive MBA program, IMD and the MIT Sloan Fellows Program, Oxford, LSE and West Point. She has been a frequent guest on financial television including CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg and a regular speaker at investor and business conferences including Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business, the World Economic Forum, Euromoney and Institutional Investor conferences, the Confederation of British Industries Annual Meeting, the Asia Pacific Economic Council Business Leaders Annual Meeting, Cercle des Economists and various banking, asset management and industry annual meetings. She has also written for The International Economy and International Fund Investment Magazine and Institutional Investor.
